TAKE A CLOSER LOOK AT THIS WEEK’S HOUSE SPECIAL: RAMEN BURGER ($5.95)

This eye-catching creation utilizes ramen noodles produced here in the Islands. A special cooking technique allows the noodles to remain soft enough to bite into, while still retaining a structured “bun” form. “The ramen buns are grilled, not deep fried,” Andaya notes.

With an abundance of aloha in every bite, L&L Hawaiian Barbecue has mastered its craft, in which generous portions of local flavors are available to patrons at unbeatable prices. After four decades in business, the renowned restaurant chain hasn’t slowed down a bit. With approximately 60 Hawaii franchises, L&L has expanded to the Mainland and internationally as well. Vice president and chief operating officer Bryan Andaya shares with Dining Out the restaurant’s newest craze.

“We recently introduced L&L’s local version of the ramen burger made famous by Keizo Shimamoto of New York,” says Andaya. “While it’s difficult to get your hands on Shimamoto’s original ramen burger, here at L&L, we have our rendition of the burger readily available at a very reasonable price.”

The burger has been a crowd pleaser from the very moment it hit the menu. According to Andaya, it’s a perfect representation of Hawaii and the blending of cultures and cuisines. Customer curiosity has resulted in increased sales (with some locations selling more than 100 Ramen Burgers each day).

By the looks of it, L&L’s Ramen Burger soon will become a permanent fixture on the menu. In fact, roughly 75 percent of L&L establishments across the country are joining in the food frenzy to meet customer demand.

Patrons can’t resist the savory combination of L&L’s signature hamburger patty topped with homemade teriyaki sauce, and garnished with lettuce and green onion.

Besides the original hamburger patty, customers also have the option to select from an array of patties, including barbecue chicken, salmon, loco moco style or garden burger (prices may vary).
