One doesn’t need to travel far to enjoy the bountiful flavors of Euro-Island cuisine at 3660 On the Rise. Located at the corner of Waialae Avenue and Wilhelmina Rise, the popular eatery has been serving loyal customers since the early 1990s with its award-winning menu.
Chief among the number of dishes is the Ahi Katsu ($14), which serves as both the flagship appetizer and signature dish on 3660’s extensive menu. The dish features sashimi-grade ahi wrapped in nori, and is deep-fried until medium rare. The delectable pieces of fresh fish come served with a wasabi ginger sauce that provides a distinct punch to the pupu item.
“The dish has been around since we opened in 1992, and people just love it,” says co-owner and executive chef Russell Siu of the katsu. “We can never take it off the menu.”
The Crispy Garlic Scallion Shrimp ($11.50) also packs a flavorful punch to start one’s meal, and is served with crispy spinach and a honey chili aioli.
The Crispy Fried Quail ($11.50) offers a departure from the norm, as the succulent miniature fowl is presented atop fig compote and alongside a puree of maple sweet potatoes. The Sampling of Rongie Foie Gras ($21) includes the rich, buttery liver both in the torchon-style with a strawberry conserve, and pan-seared with a pineapple vanilla compote.
