Locally owned and operated Se- kiya’s Restaurant & Delicates- sen prides itself on providing customers with a more relaxed, family diner feel with its Japanese dishes that offer a unique local taste since it first opened in 1935.
“Our atmosphere and vibe at Sekiya’s is definitely more of a relaxed, family diner feel,” says the eatery’s manager and chef Leonard Paresa. “We’re nos- talgic and the kind of place that’s been serving Hawaii for generations.”
Ohana is important to Sekiya’s, as can be seen with its Mother’s Day Special ($28.95), which boasts a spe- cial teishoku set that features seared misoyaki salmon, an ahi poke inside-out sushi roll, yakitori chicken and potato macaroni salad, along with rice, miso, namasu, lima beans and tsukemono. Make sure to take advantage of this deal,

as it is only available for Mother’s Day, and can be done for dine-in or takeout. For any other day, try the restaurant’s house special, Oyako Donburi ($12.99). “This dish is one of our most popular, and it contains chicken, onion, mush- room and long rice, which is simmered in our dashi with a little shoyu and sugar, which is then finished off with a scram- bled poached egg. It’s all served over a bed of rice, and comes with miso, and
tsukemono,” says Paresa.
Sekiya’s is also famously known for
its saimin and udon noodles, which are served with its homemade dashi soup. It recommends customers try its Beef Teriyaki and Nitsuke Butterfish to ac- company it.
In the time of pandemic, it is easy to
lose sight of things, but Sekiya’s Restau- rant & Delicatessen has always put the families of Hawaii first and continues to do so with these specials.
“We understand that these are dif- ficult times,” says Paresa. “We appre- ciate the continued support from our wonderful community.”
