When you’re hungry for a steaming bowl of freshly made ramen, you don’t have to look far. There’s really no shortage of eateries on the island that serve up the popular, slurpable noodles.
But if you choose not to eat meat, there may be a bit of trepidation when ordering off a menu. Sure, the ramen may be called “vegetable” or it’s listed in the “vegetable” section of the menu, but how do you know if the restaurant uses a meat base for its broth?
There’s no need to worry, veggie lovers. Just head out Waipahu way, because at Ton Ton Ramen, all you have to do is ask.
“We cook fresh to order,” says owner Ken Cho. What that means is if you prefer a meat-free vegetable broth, just tell your server and the cook will happily accommodate you.
That, of course, goes for Ton Ton’s Vegetable Ramen as well — a noodle bowl that’s filled to the rim with carrots, cabbage, onions and bean sprouts. At only $6.95, it’s a budget-friendly way to slurp to your heart’s content.
It’s a healthy choice for anyone — even meat-eaters.
“Customers can choose regular or vegetarian broth, just ask,” adds Cho. “It’s very popular. A lot of people who like to eat more vegetables order that
one.”
At Ton Ton Ramen, pleasing the customer is what it’s all about. Just ask.
