A CLOSER LOOK AT THIS WEEK’S HOUSE SPECIAL: Broiled Misoyaki Butterfish Teishoku ($12.95)

The beauty of teishoku, or set meals, presents itself in each refined dish that is placed before diners. One part of the set can be a handful of pickled radish, or takuan, and another, steamy miso soup. The elegance of this traditional Japanese meal builds with each course, combining various flavors and textures for the ultimate dining experience.

Teishoku Restaurant in Kamehameha Shopping Center, which opened in June, has savored this tasty tradition by offering teishoku sets on its menu — as well as other Japanese cuisine such as ramen, curry and sushi. The eatery also caters to local clientele by serving fresh poke bowls using sashimi-grade ahi, in addition to other island favorites — think Tonkatsu and Kalbi.

Still, the new restaurant prides itself on its authentic teishoku, which come in a multitude of main-entree options, including Shrimp and Vegetable Tempura, Ribeye Steak, Mochiko Chicken, Broiled Salmon and more.
