The menu at Hung Won Seafood Restaurant largely is influenced by traditional Chinese cuisine — the subject of which the chefs are bonafide experts.
Two of the chefs are originally from China, and later worked at another local Chinese restaurant. But eventually, they wanted to venture out on their own. So they teamed up with some of their family members to take over ownership of Hung Won in Kaimuki last spring.
The menu offers a huge selection of food — from noodles and stir-fries to smoked meats.
Even with a wide-ranging menu, Hung Won always is looking to do something new — the eatery regularly revamps its offerings. According to co-owner Janice Ouyang, you can expect some new items come January.
FRESH FROM THE SEA
Hung Won’s seafood is not to be overlooked, which is clear from Scallop with Broccoli ($14.95). However, one of the dishes that the restaurant is becoming best known for is its Mochi Duck ($18.95). “We use the Hong Kong duck, and stir-fry the mochi rice with lap cheong and egg and make it crispy,” Ouyang explains.
