Decadent fare for the sweet and the savory

Located on Keeaumoku street in a bustling parking lot is the famous YogurStory, one of Hawaii’s favorite brunch spots. Whether you’re just starting your day or taking a break from shopping at nearby Ala Moana Center, make sure you visit this eatery on an empty stomach, because you definitely will leave stuffed and ready for a nap.

Maybe the restaurant should be called “Kanack Attack” instead?

Executive chef and creator of all of the following dishes Brandon Stover has been working at YogurStory for only about a year and loves the opportunity to invent new dishes. “The creative freedom is probably my favorite part about working here,” he explains. “There’s a lot of trial and error until something comes out good; definitely a lot of trials.”

Two of YogurStory’s most popular dishes are the BAE and Smores Waffles. BAE ($14) is pork belly braised with soy sauce, maple syrup and bacon-infused hollandaise, all served on an English muffin with a soft poached egg. “It tastes really good,” says Stover. “The maple braise makes it really soft, tender and gives it lots of flavor,” he adds.

Now, Smores Waffle ($12) could be listed as a dessert. It is served with a graham cracker waffle, loaded with Hershey’s chocolate and topped with a roasted marshmallow, condensed milk and macadamia nuts. This dish is perfect for those who have a big sweet tooth.

“My favorite is either the BAE or Smores, it just depends on which mood I’m in: sweet or savory,” says Stover.

Another new and popular dish is the Prime Rib Skillet ($13). “This meal is served with sautéed onions, bell peppers, zucchini, with prime rib in butter garlic and our secret sauce over tater tots with brown gravy and an egg, all on a skillet,” he explains.

“I think they’re popular because they’re visually appealing and delicious,” Stover adds.

The success of these dishes hasn’t slowed Stover down one bit. Some upcoming menu specials that should be available this summer are his Macadamia Nut French Toast and Azuki Bean Pancakes with Strawberry Chichi Dango Sauce.
