Krazy about frozen treats

Locally owned and operated Yogo Krazy, located in Pearlridge next to Longs on the ground floor, is the brainchild of the Yeh siblings. Joyce, Danny and Kelly opened Yogo Krazy in 2009, shortly after they finished high school.

“We run the business,” Joyce explains. “We don’t have any employees.”

The family-oriented mindset is obvious to customers when they walk through the door, as the service is always friendly and the facilities are always clean.

Now, Yogo Krazy is not your run-of-the-mill “fro-yo” establishment. It also features shave ice, halo halo, blended drinks and yogurt smoothies. According to Joyce, the haven for sweets is known for its yogurt (45 cents per ounce), which is made fresh daily.

Fourteen flavors adorn the menu, the most popular being Honeydew and Dole Pineapple, which is a sorbet (a non-dairy alternative for those who are lactose intolerant).

More than 60 toppings are available to customers who revel in creating their own edible masterpieces. Try your hand at one particular topping called popping bubbles, which contain a sweet juice, or sample different flavors of jellies.

Yogo Krazy also garners attention for its Halo Halo ($4.59), but this is no ordinary Halo Halo.

“We use the shave ice machine, so it’s fine, and the ice is flavored with pan-dan,” Joyce says. “It adds color and flavor. A lot of other halo halo is made with evaporated milk.”

Yogo Krazy’s Halo Halo is topped off with coconut strips, jackfruit, azuki beans and strawberry jelly among other items. And, of course, the infamous ube (sweet potato) ice cream.

Those who fancy Shave Ice ($2.75) can choose from 24 flavors, and you can top it off with condensed milk, azuki beans and vanilla yogurt.

Yogurt Smoothies and Blended Drinks are also on the menu for $4.59 and $3.99 for non-dairy items.

The Yogurt Smoothies are blended with real fruit and yogurt, while the Blended Drinks are offered in flavors such as Milk Tea and Vietnamese Coffee.

If you want to add a little extra oomph to your drink, additional toppings are 50 cents more.

According to Joyce, the tiny tapioca goes well with the blended drinks, and customers often choose to add jelly and popping bubbles to their Yogurt Smoothies.
