Soar to Sweet Heights at New Eagle

It’s been nearly a year since Tae Im took ownership of New Eagle Café. Since then, he’s made every effort to ensure that all main entrees, breakfast items and desserts are infused with that classic comfort food taste.

One dessert Im has added to the menu since the cafe opened last November, is Banana Cream Cheese Square ($2.75). This edible delight features bananas, banana pudding and cream cheese with a dab of whipped cream on a moist, tasty layer of graham crust. While whipped cream is a customary topping for many desserts, the addition of the cream cheese gives this particular dessert “a more solid taste,” according to Im. And although macadamia nuts can be added to the crust, Im decided to nix the nuts in order to keep the dish simple.

“A lot of people are allergic to nuts, so to appeal to the mass audience, there are no nuts in the crust,” he says.

Another sweet treat is Pumpkin Crunch ($2.75), which has been on the menu for a while, and regulars are overjoyed that Im decided to keep the dessert there.

“There’s so much demand for it,” he says. “It’s so popular. We make six large pans a week.”

The popular dish is made from scratch and consists of pumpkin, pecans, sugar, butter, cake mix, eggs and a little bit of salt.

Although pumpkin is considered a seasonal flavor, New Eagle Café serves up this delicious treat all year round.

“Pumpkin Crunch isn’t that easy to find,” he says.

While Banana Cream Cheese Square does not have nuts in it, the Pumpkin Crunch treat wouldn’t be the same without a hearty helping of pecans.

“Without the nuts, you don’t have the crunch anymore,” Im says.

New Eagle Café also serves up pies ($2.75, per slice) — all of which are made in-house. Among the more notable pies are apple, apricot, custard, banana, coconut, peach, pear and pumpkin, which Im says should be paired with ice cream for that classic dessert combination.
