“Hot pot is a symbol of family meals and memories for many Japanese people,” says Kamitoku Japanese Hot Pot general manager and co-owner Yu Conceicao. “I fondly remember the days when we celebrated special occasions by enjoying sukiyaki made with more expensive beef that my father would buy or gathered around the table to share a vegetable-rich mizutaki hot pot that my mother carefully prepared. Those days of casual conversation and family togetherness around the hot pot are nostalgic for me.”
According to Conceicao, more than 100 beef-bone ramen shops fill the streets of Tottori, Japan, and Kamitoku Tottori Main Store — with its 80-year history — is known as the go-to place for beef-bone ramen.
In 2014, Kamitoku arrived in Hawaii, originally as a food truck. In 2016, the business moved into the now-closed Shirokiya Japan Village Walk in Ala Moana Center. In 2021, Kamitoku Ramen opened in Ward Center.
Last year, Kamitoku Japanese Hot Pot opened in Market City Shopping Center — serving hot pot with its popular beef-bone broth.
The restaurant’s Lunch Hot Pot Set (starts at $9.99, pictured) offers a taste of Japan with Kamitoku’s finest ingredients, all at an affordable price.
Japanese sake, shochu and beer options as well as homemade Japanese appetizers add to the eatery’s celebratory, comfortable atmosphere.
“We aim to bring the taste of family to the local community, which treats not only actual family members but also friends, colleagues and neighbors as ohana with warmth and care,” concludes Conceicao.
MELT-IN-YOUR-MOUTH MEAT
Tender, top-grade wagyu rib-eye pairs perfectly with the beef bone broth and results in a delicious, decadent beefy dish.
BLISSFUL BROTH
The Beef Maki Soup combines rich, full-bodied beef-bone broth, which is simmered for an entire day, with the refreshing flavors of yuzu and cilantro. Kamitoku offers more than 10 different beef-bone broth options.
SATIATING SIDES
Japanese vegetables and ramen noodles complete the Lunch Hot Pot Set (starts at $9.99, pictured). Guests can add housemade appetizers, which will allow them to further indulge in the sweetness, spiciness and tanginess of the Japanese cuisine.
