Oahu is home to a wide variety of cuisines and a melting pot of different cultures. For guests looking for a taste of Mongolia, Khan Skewer is ready to satisfy.
“During COVID, I couldn’t go back to my hometown,” says restaurant co-founder Fiona Yang. “But I missed home so much that I decided to open a home-style restaurant in Hawaii.”
Khan Skewer’s savory menu includes Crawfish with Ramen ($28.99), which is flavored in Chinese 13-spice seasoning; Spicy Catfish ($48.99); and Lamb Skewers ($8.99 for three; $12.99 for five).
“We want to incorporate more local, fresh Hawaiian ingredients,” Yang says. “So we do have Kona live abalone, Maui fresh venison meat, and also pineapple dipping sauce.”
According to the eatery’s website, to maintain the freshness of the ingredients, the restaurant’s meat skewers are made and served on the same day, with no preservatives, artificial flavors or colors. The skewers feature a wide range of meats, including beef tendon, Maui venison, pork belly and chicken thighs. Customers can also make seafood skewers with items such as whole shrimp, fish cake and grilled garlic oysters, and vegetable skewers with king oyster mushrooms, green peppers and zucchini.
Guests can quench their thirst with Khan Skewer’s DIY Station ($38.99), where they can choose one beer and one soju that comes with fruits to create a unique drink. For those looking for a nonalcoholic option, soft drink bowls are also offered, such as the Real Peach Bowl ($25.99) and the Plum Juice Bowl ($18.99).
With a vast food and drink menu, Khan Skewer has a little something for everyone.
