Although Fourth of July fireworks have already ceased, celebrations continue at Mahina & Sun’s inside Waikiki’s Surfjack Hotel & Swim Club. To commemorate Bastille Day on July 14 — a holiday celebrating France’s independence — the eatery will offer a special Bastille Day menu from July 10 to 14.
“Bastille Day is celebrated in many parts of the world with family activities, parades and fireworks,” explains Lisa Taibi, director of food and beverage. “In this tradition, Mahina & Sun’s celebrates Bastille Week, offering French-inspired dishes and libations by executive chef Erik Leong and bar czar Christian Taibi.”
Chicken Cordon Bleu Crepes ($16) infuse French-inspired recipes and traditional ingredients. The thin crepes are served with a creamy béchamel sauce, frisée leafy greens and crisp radishes.
Seared Ahi Nicoise ($24) adds island-fresh fish to the traditional French salad, which mixes olives, tomatoes, potatoes, eggs and green beans.
Potato Scallop Fish ($34) is a decadent entree to devour. Braised greens, roasted tomato and lemon complement the flavorful fish.
Steak au Poivre & Pommes Frites ($40) features pan-fried, juicy New York strip steak seasoned with green peppercorn and served with French-style potato fries.
In addition to the special menu for the upcoming week, Mahina & Sun’s offers a daily happy hour from noon to 5:30 p.m., daily live music from 6:30 to 9 p.m. and a variety of poolside events, including brunch, dance parties, night markets and dog greetings.
Taibi concludes, “Mahina & Sun’s gives everyone poolside a sense of Waikiki’s past with a vintage modern twist.”
