KuruKuru Sushi is, of course, known for its fresh fish dishes. The more-than-20-year-old eatery also serves Japanese-inspired, non-raw-fish sides to satisfy every appetite.

“We have always been a family-oriented establishment,” says co-owner and CFO Tsunaki Goto, who is a second-generation owner after Tetsuo and Mieko Goto founded the eatery in 2003.

Continues Tsunaki, “We have a variety of traditional Japanese dishes to choose from — for those who might enjoy raw fish or for others who want other options.”

KuruKuru Sushi’s Cold Udon with Tempura Set ($11.95) is a classic combination. Inspired by Japan’s noodle restaurants, comforting, chewy udon is served alongside crisp, crunchy tempura. The tempura includes shrimp, crab and a variety of traditional Japanese vegetables. Somen and tempura sauce accompany the dish for delightful dousing of the noodles and tempura, respectively.

The restaurant’s Mixed Fry Curry Bowl ($11.95) pairs Japanese-style chicken curry and rice with a range of perfectly fried foods, including chicken karaage and shrimp.

“This dish is voluminous and filling,” Tsunaki describes. “It’s a complete meal for some guests.”

Both these dishes are served on a white plate, with the plate color dictating the price. Orange, yellow, green, red, purple and blue dishes are also available — offering an array of oishii sushi and other side options at affordable prices.

KuruKuru Sushi’s sleek dining rooms at Kahala Mall and Pearl Kai Shopping Center offer two convenient, comfortable venues for table side dining. A vast takeout menu, which also includes party platter options, is another delicious option for those on the go.
