Many culinary treats can be found in the heart of Waikiki for visitors and locals alike, and Mahina & Sun’s is no exception. Located in the Surfjack Hotel & Swim Club, this restaurant features nostalgic-inducing dishes crafted with local ingredients.
“Since 2016, Mahina & Sun’s has been dedicated to serving sustainable seafood,” says executive chef Erik Leong. “Through consistent hospitality, adaptability, community engagement and a commitment to improvement, we strive to create lasting connections with our guests.”
The restaurant offers a variety of meat, pasta and seafood dishes, including its Fresh Catch ($34), featuring shutome, or swordfish, with green banana tamale, cilantro chutney and grilled corn salsa.
The menu also features a Risotto ($32) with saffron broth, edamame, sugar snap peas and Kauai shrimp. The signature dish, Off the Hook ($36), showcases ono, uala puree, asparagus and lemon coconut butter sauce.
“I could make a list of reasons what guests like about Mahina & Sun’s, but it comes down to, ‘Is the food good?’ or, ‘Are the drinks tasty?’” Leong says. “We want to be the best experience their entire stay, we want to be the experience they regret not finding earlier, we want to be the experience that you can’t find anywhere else.”
The eatery will host various events throughout the year, including Bastille Week, San Genaro’s Feast and Pickle Phest. For updates, follow the restaurant on Instagram (@mahinaandsuns).
