Khan Skewer Restaurant is named after Mongol warrior and ruler Genghis Khan, who was storied to feed his hungry soldiers spicy skewers cooked over an open fire.
After more than a year of operation, Khan Skewer is gaining the reputation as the go-to place for both locals and visitors to order mouthwatering Mongolian-flavored meats — and much more.
“We created Khan Skewer to let more people know about the taste of Mongolia in China,” explains co-founder Fiona Wang.
The dog-friendly eatery serves an array of satiating skewers: beef, lamb, pork, chicken, venison, seafood and vegetables. Two skewer dips elevate the spice experience. A sweet-acidic, slightly spicy pineapple chile evokes local Hawaii flavors while a Xinjiang-style blend of spices, including Sichuan peppercorns, showcases Chinese spice.
Alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages and special dishes complement the skewer selection. To conclude the meal, a shave ice dessert cools down guests’ mouths after indulging in the spicy skewer heat.
Stop by Khan Skewer’s Moiliili location, and also check the eatery out at the Waikiki Spam Jam event on April 27, which will have more skewer specials, including a pork and Spam skewer.
MOUTHWATERING MEATS
Lamb ($8.99, three skewers; $12.99, five skewers) and Beef ($7.99, three skewers; $11.99, five skewers) are bestselling dishes, while Maui Venison ($9.99, three skewers; $13.99, five skewers) adds a locally sourced option.
SIZZLING SKEWERS
Carefully controlled cooking times ensure every 1-ounce-of-meat skewer reaches guests’ tables at a terrific temperature, and slight steam wafts from the plate to give a savory, visual sensation.
SPICED JUST RIGHT
Khan Skewer imports all its spices to achieve authentic Mongolian barbecue flavors. A traditional marinade along with secret chile and cumin powers ensure a multifaceted and delicious bite with every piece of meat.
