Tucked away in the Moiliili neighborhood, spicy skewers — and more — are served up in authentic Mongolian style at Khan Skewer Restaurant.
Established last year, Khan Skewer is “dedicated to offering guests the boldest flavors of Mongolian cuisine,” explains co-founder Fiona Wang.
“To maintain a Mongolian flavor, most of the spices are imported from Mongolia. Each skewer is made and served on the same day to provide top freshness,” Wang expands.
From the vast selection of beef, lamb, pork, chicken, venison, seafood and vegetable skewers, every guest will surely find something to savor.
Lamb Skewer ($12.99 for five) is a popular pick. The lamb is soft and spiced with a special chile cumin.
Another favorite is the Beef Tongue ($13.99 for five), which offers big pieces of perfectly grilled meat with a balanced blend of special spices.
Two skewer dips elevate the spice experience: a sweet-acidic, slightly spicy pineapple chile and a Xinjiang-style blend of spices including Sichuan peppercorns.
Beverages and special dishes compliment the skewer selection, such as Scallops with Vermicelli ($13.99 for three pieces) — plump, garlicky scallops topped with luscious noodles.
The late-night eatery was named after Mongol warrior and ruler Genghis Khan, who was said to feed his hungry soldiers spicy skewers cooked over an open fire.
Nov. 20-26, Khan Skewer is offering 20% off all food items plus a free shave ice. To redeem this special offer, show the Dining Out coupon, or post a photo of your meal on social media and tag @khan_skewer.
