Gather around for comfort food

Grandma’s Fried Pork Chop Pasta ($28)

In the heart of any neighborhood, an established eatery serves as a place to gather with friends and family around comforting food. In Ward Village and Hawaii Kai, Scratch Kitchen is that go-to gathering place.

For brunch and dinner, the restaurant “features comfort food inspired by its Southern roots and grounded by our island heritage,” describes owner Gary Chen.

Continues Chen, “At Scratch Kitchen, we pride ourselves on providing flavorful dishes made with wholesome and fresh ingredients.”

Craving breakfast? The photogenic pancakes are not to be missed. The Milk N’ Cereal Pancakes ($16) showcase a perfect stack topped with fresh fruit and cereal and doused with housemade milk syrup.

Spicy Southern Fried Chicken N’ Waffle ($20)

The Spicy Southern Fried Chicken N’ Waffle ($20) is another breakfast favorite. Crisp-yet-fluffy waffles are served with Scratch’s famous fried chicken as well as arugula, pickled jalapeños, pickled onions and a chile glaze.

Scratch House Burger ($23)

For lunch or dinner, the Scratch House Burger ($23) serves up two 4-ounce grassfed smash patties, all the fixings and a zesty chipotle aioli — making for a blissful bite and belly delight.

Grandma’s Fried Pork Chop Pasta ($28) comforts the soul with a bone-in fried pork chop, garlic lemon sauce, capers, Parmesan cheese, sautéed broccoli and cherry tomatoes.

“Our food is a labor of love. We are proud to be able to serve quality food and create happy moments with our friends,” adds Chen.

And, soon the Kapolei community will be greeted with Scratch’s third location at Ka Makana Alii.
