Shave ice, poke, li hing mui gummies, waffle dogs: Hawaii has many iconic dishes — oftentimes creating a debate of where to stop to satisfy local food cravings. Hawaii’s Favorite Kitchens (HFK) is ending that debate, as the restaurant feature a wide variety of local favorites for the whole family.
Located off Kapahulu Avenue next to its sibling business, Rainbow Drive-In, HFK has exclusive menu items of its own as well as foods from featured partners, such as Lin’s Hawaiian Snacks, KC Drive Inn, Makai Poke by Rainbows, Rainbow Drive-In, Shimazu Shave Ice, and Goodies by Holly (delicious baked goods).
One of the most popular dishes is the HFK Mix Plate ($13.95), a huge portion of chicken, beef and poke, alongside white or brown rice and steamed vegetables or macaroni salad.
Another HFK exclusive is the Smoked Salmon Tofu Salad ($7.75), offering a light and refreshing menu option.
Is the line at Rainbow Drive-In too long? Stop at HFK to pick up Rainbow Drive-In plates and bowls. A popular option is the Chili Rainbowl ($8.50), a hearty and comforting bowl filled with warm chili, white or brown rice, and steamed vegetables or macaroni salad.
After filling up on favorite foods, add a sweet treat to conclude the meal. HFK has more than 70 flavors of Shimazu Shave Ice and a new addition of crispy okoshi from Rainbow Drive-In.
“With the wide variety of dishes, we believe there is something for everyone,” says Christine Ito, marketing director at Rainbow Drive-In. “HFK is truly a one-stop shop for local favorites!”
