Teddy’s Bigger Burgers continues to supplement its popular menu that includes freshly made hamburger patties and quality beef that multiple generations of local diners have come to love since it opened at the foot of Diamond Head in 1998.
Nearly a quarter century later, the diner-style restaurant now features locations in Aiea, Haleiwa, Hawaii Kai, Kailua, University, Waikiki and more on Oahu; Lahaina on Maui; the U.S. continent; and even in Japan and the Philippines.
Teddy’s Bigger Burgers got its start, as many great ideas do, during backyard cookouts of owners Ted Tsakiris and Rich Stula. The duo loved great-tasting, freshly cooked burgers but couldn’t understand why there weren’t any local fast-food restaurants that offered the quality of their home-cooked burgers in a quick service environment.
The conversations sparked a concept as Tsakiris and Stula set out to create a restaurant that served the best quality burgers in an energetic, fast-paced setting. After studying the simple menus of iconic 1950s burger eateries, the restaurateurs decided to “reinvent the burger joint” with a wistful ’50s theme and a simple menu composed of burgers, fries and shakes.
Recipes were developed and the menu was built out after companies and vendors were found that could supply the quality products that set Teddy’s apart from the competition. Teddy’s Bigger Burgers uses only 100% fresh chilled ground chuck, without any fillers or binders, and the burgers are hand crafted daily and always charbroiled to order.
Surf a wave of flavor with a Triple Waikiki Burger (price varies), a massive 1-pound triple-patty creation that features a unique combination of taste and texture as teriyaki sauce, bacon, spuds and cheddar cheese top the impressive stacked burger. Guests rave about the Double Greek Burger (price varies) as the delicious patties are accompanied by feta, cucumber, lettuce, onions, tomato and vinaigrette.
“Super Sauce” is Teddy’s signature sweet and tangy creation, not the typical Thousand Island dressing. Even Teddy’s teriyaki sauce features a traditional recipe made from scratch, and the produce and buns are of the highest quality and delivered fresh daily.
Spicy Crispy Chicken Sandwich (price varies) is Teddy’s take on the super popular culinary trend, as this sandwich brings the heat!
Reach for an order of traditional Fries or Umami Fries (prices vary) as these sensational spuds pair well with any burger or sandwich and are coated with garlic butter and drizzled with Sriracha aioli before being sprinkled with furikake. Also, be sure to try Garlic Chicken Tenders as they pack incredible flavor in each bite with notes of garlic, Parmesan and parsley, as well as Buffalo Chicken Tenders served in a spicy Buffalo sauce (prices vary). The ono tenders are served with fries and ranch to dip in.
Don’t forget to order a delicious, thick real ice cream milkshake available in multiple flavors to complete one’s meal, from traditional classics to innovative takes on the milkshake (prices vary).
