National Coconut Week is around the corner, and in honor of the celebration, Island Popper Gourmet Popcorn is unveiling its newest creation: ube coconut.
“We have been wanting to craft an ube coconut flavor for a while, so National Coconut Week was the perfect excuse to make it happen,” says owner Andrea Tournis-Vagenas. “When the flavors are quality and real, the end result is just so delicious!”
To create this treat, Tournis-Vagenas and her husband used their scratch-made caramel recipe and added coconut and ube for the popcorn’s rich, purple color.
“At the end of the day I want to make people happy by making the most delicious popcorn they have ever had,”
Tournis-Vagenas says. “Whether it is for themselves, to share with their family or to be given as a gift, I want to bring on the smiles!”
Started in 2012 as the state’s only gourmet popcorn truck, Island Popper was designed to bring original popcorn flavors to Hawaii. The company offers four main flavors: Original Furikake, Organic Butter, Caramel and Real Cheddar Cheese in addition to its island mixes, featuring unique tastes for Oahu, Maui, Kauai and the Big Island.
“Popcorn is such a happy snack,” Tournis-Vagenas says. “It is a treat and we put so much love and aloha into each kernel to make it as special as possible!”
