Cocktails shine at modern lounge

Steal My Sunshine ($16)

Mahina & Sun’s is the place to be in Waikiki for guests looking to enjoy local-style comfort food and craft cocktails, whether it’s a special occasion or simply relaxing for pau hana.

Situated in the Surfjack Hotel & Swim Club, Mahina & Sun’s is an alluring oasis tucked away from the hustle and bustle. As part of the Mahina Lounge Live! experience (6:309 p.m. Sunday-Wednesday; 6-9:30 p.m. Thursday-Saturday), guests are treated to the local voices and acoustic sounds of Hawaii’s finest entertainers poolside, including Kelly Boy DeLima, Jeff Rasmussen, Sam Kapu, Dustin Park, Trishnalei, Cameron Achuela, Laupepa Letuli and Kokonut Point.

Mahina & Sun’s executive bar czar Christian Taibi brings his experience in the New York nightlife scene to the expansive bar that serves as the poolside restaurant’s centerpiece. His passion for mixology and creating flavor profiles shines through in each sip, especially in a series of new, healthy spring cocktails.

Centerfield ($16) captures the essence of fresh-cut grass as Kupu gin, herbal liquors, citrus and housemade parsley juice are served as a spritz. Roses ($16) is perfect for whiskey lovers and draws inspiration from the mint julep served at the Kentucky Derby with an infusion of rose hibiscus and pink peppercorn served in a chilled copper tin.

Steal My Sunshine ($16) is crafted for the margarita lover as housemade “sour carrot juice” is accompanied by Casamigos tequila, agave, fresh ginger cordial, a dusting of carrot salt and a sprig of dill as garnish to replicate the carrot.

“Guests at the Mahina Lounge can look forward to good vibes and even better libations!” Taibi says.
