Enjoy a romantic night at Mahina and Sun’s, which is located at Surfjack Hotel & Swim Club. The eatery will be celebrating Valentine’s Day from Feb. 11 through Feb.14.
Executive chef Erik Leong will be incorporating local Manoa chocolate throughout the menu. The Valentine’s prix fixe dinner ($65) consists of three courses. The first course includes watercress, strawberries, Sweet Land Farm goat cheese and candied coco pistachios with pomegranate molasses. The main dish features cacao cured duck breast, lentils, endive, carrots and orange with port wine sauce. For dessert, guests can indulge in a caramelized pear chocolate mousse cake.
In addition to its Valentine’s offerings, the restaurant’s regular dinner and Happy Hour menus will also be available. With so many options in place, there’s sure to be something to satisfy all appetites.
“First and foremost, we always try to highlight the bounty of the ocean,” Leong explains. “We live in Hawaii, and why not take advantage of maybe our biggest resource — the local fish provided by the sea.”
The executive chef says the Smoked Ahi Toast ($14) is“the best tuna sandwich you will ever have.” It boasts ahi, which is smoked in-house, pumpernickel, pickles and egg.
For a sweet treat, try the Banana Pudding ($10). The dish contains “cookie dirt,” vanilla cream and caramel, and serves as a tribute to Leong’s late mother.
“Growing up, I would always help my mother make banana cream pies to give away in the holiday season and everyone always raved about it,” he shares. “Now, I’ve used all the experience I’ve obtained and really morphed my mother’s banana cream pie into a really special dessert that really is a must-try at Mahina & Sun’s.”
