Just in time for the holidays, Sun Noodle released omiyage saimin kits to gift in person or ship to loved ones. The quintessential comfort food created during Hawaii’s plantation days, saimin is one of those dishes that gives diners that feeling of comfort and home.
Individual packages are $14, and a set of three kits (each kit makes three portions) is $45 online in its kamaaina store, plus shipping.
Expect two kit varieties: Liliha Saimin and Haleiwa Drymein. The former takes you back in the day when saimin stands were found all over Honolulu, especially in the Liliha area; and the latter pays homage to the North Shore’s famous garlic shrimp trucks with a Maui-style dry mein and special garlic butter flavor that locals and visitors have come to love.
In addition to ordering online, find kits at Foodland Farms and KAHALA MKT. by Foodland.
