If you haven’t eaten at TsuruTonTan, here’s another good reason to try its food: the Waikiki restaurant just launched a new takeout menu this month and it’s worth a slurp.
Available seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., the menu uses the same made-fresh ingredients as its dine-in selections. There’s fish, homemade karaage, tonkatsu and more — all accompanied by a full-sized udon.
“Each bowl can also be upgraded for a more luxurious udon, available for an (added) price,” says general manager Takuma Lathrop.
He recommends customers to put in their takeout orders early, as the menu is popular.
The restaurant also has just launched a new lunch special, available Monday through Friday, featuring a sushi roll and tempura set and a sashimi and tempura set.
“As always, everything is made fresh daily, including the noodles and dashi/soup. We still use ingredients from Japan to make our noodles and dashi/soups, and we use a specially filtered water to mimic that of the water in Japan so that we can create the most authentic Japanese udon,” says Lathrop.
He says the menu changes over four times throughout the year, to keep up with customer demands, as well as new COVID-19 mandates. While the restaurant does not offer curbside pickup, there is free parking in the mall with reserved stalls for food pickup on the third floor.
“Since TsuruTonTan is on the third floor, customers won’t need to use elevators, stairs or escalators,” says Lathrop. “We are the restaurant closest to the parking lot. We also offer three hours of validated parking for kamaaina and military.”
