Since it opened in August 2018, Akira Japanese Restaurant in Honolulu has been acclaimed for its traditional foods crafted from the freshest ingredients under the helm of head chef/owner Taiki Kawai. A true fan favorite of the eatery’s patrons is its Butterfish Bento.
In addition, families of hungry dads will be glad to know that the restaurant will offer Father’s Day special plates ($100) to take home.
Prized papas can be treated to these delectable platters, which will include uni and beef tataki, crab and eggplant, grilled hamachi kama and deep-fried lobster arare. Other choices in the plates are roast duck yuzu-miso and butterfish in ginger sauce, beef filet steak miso garlic. They also feature abalone tataki, assorted sashimi and four pieces of assorted sushi.
Order at least a day in advance and pick up from 12:30 to 7 p.m. on June 14 (Monday) to June 18 (Friday); or 2:30 to 7 p.m. June 19 (Saturday). The restaurant will be closed on June 20 (Sunday).
Akira Japanese Restaurant also has its popular to-go menu, available 11:30 a.m.-7 p.m. Mondays-Saturdays.
Among the choices on this menu is the Akira Bento Box ($12). It features a choice of miso butterfish, miso king salmon or unagi teriyaki. It includes a cold appetizer, chicken karaage, tamagoyaki, rice and pickles. Other dishes available are a variety of bowls, side orders and sushi rolls.
