Today is Sunday, June 20, which also happens to be Father’s Day. What better occasion than to treat that admired dad with the aptly named Father’s Day Special ($12.95), available today at Shiro’s Saimin Haven’s Waimalu location only.
Offered for dine-in or takeout, this hearty plate features mochiko chicken and chili, along with your choice of starch — ranging from french fries, rice or mashed potatoes. The meal also comes with a side of corn, and mac salad is available for an additional dollar.
Besides its Father’s Day feast, Shiro’s has plenty of other popular dishes on its regular daily dine-in menu.
For example, there’s the Fried Rice Omelette with Pork Adobo on the breakfast menu ($11.50). This item features flavorful fried rice expertly wrapped in a thin blanket of egg. Preparing the adobo requires a half-day labor-intensive process to bring out the perfect taste.
Another selection available is Shiro’s Original Cutlet with Gravy plate ($12). This dish features breaded boneless chicken, and the gravy is made with drippings from roasts and oxtails that take a day to simmer.
The restaurant is also known for its acclaimed Double Hula Bacon Burga ($12.45). It’s made with 100% local beef and the patties are crafted fresh daily.
Especially created for people who can’t always make up their mind, there’s the Bento A ($13.30), which has a bit of everything. This medley has katsu, Spam, teri beef, fried noodles, one maki sushi, one cone sushi and rice.
Shiro’s Saimin Haven prides itself as a comfort food eatery that does things right, in traditional fashion. Instead of cutting corners, its goals include taking the time to make sure orders arrive correctly, with good-sized portions that taste great.
