TsuruTonTan serves up steaming bowls of noodles from its location at Royal Hawaiian Center, and the variety it offers has customers returning again and again for more. Fans of classic fare will enjoy the Tan Tan Udon ($18), featuring housemade broth with pork, cilantro and shishito. Feeling a little more adventurous? Try the Ikura Oroshi Udon ($18) made with cold dashi and topped with ikura, grated daikon radish, shiso and nori. Or, enjoy the richness of Truffle Cream Udon ($17) that’s highlighted by sautéed mushrooms, onion, freshly grated Parmigiano cheese and snow crab — all finished with truffle oil. Other popular options for daring diners include Cold Mentai Caviar Udon and Mentaiko Cream Udon (prices vary).
There’s also bite-sized morsels in various sushi and sashimi plates, but notable is the Wagyu Sushi ($12), showcasing lightly seared wagyu beef on sushi rice.
As the rest of the world bids farewell to 2020 and welcomes 2021, the staff at TsuruTonTan do the same with hearts filled with gratitude — and bowls and plates ready for hungry diners.
“Thank you for your support in 2020,” shares president Takuma Lathrop. “We know it was a difficult year for everyone, and we can’t express our gratitude enough. Happy New Year!”
