There are big things in the works at Genki Sushi Ward, including an online ordering system that launches Monday, July 27. After ordering and paying on the website, customers can pull up to the curb and a Genki Sushi employee will bring their food out.
Dine-in service is an option, too, though no conveyor belts will be running. Instead, the staff offers full tableside service.
“All staff at Ward are well- trained with practicing social distancing due to COVID,” says Ward front of house manager Nicole Silva, who adds that amongst the staff, masks are worn, gloves are used and hand sanitizer stations are set up around the restaurant.
Popular on the Ward menu are some deep-fried items like Hamachi Kama ($8.50), Shishamo ($2.95, two pieces) and Spam Tamago Tempura Roll ($3.95), as well as specialty sushi items like the four-piece Rainbow Roll ($5.95) that houses an imitation crab center and toppings of ahi, salmon and avocados, as well as the four-piece Spicy Tuna Dynamite ($5.95) that comes with shrimp tempura and spicy tuna seared with mayo and drizzled with unagi sauce. Also a big hit are the Spicy Poke Wontons ($5.95) that come with two layers of wonton chips and fresh fish (fresh ahi poke and spicy tuna).
The same grab-and-go bentos are still up for grabs, too, including the $7.99 that includes a choice of chicken karaage, chicken katsu, garlic chicken or fried squid, as well as your choice of California roll, kappa maki, oshinko maki, kanpyo maki or ume maki. Upgrade the meal to the $9.49 version that comes with the same fried main dish choices, as well as a side of either spicy tuna, ahi poke, sukiyaki beef or teriyaki chicken.
Surrounded by stores and shops, Genki Sushi Ward is the perfect way to refuel after some retail therapy, and serves as a hidden gem for those craving a quick sushi fix.
“There’s almost never a wait time on weekdays,” says Silva, noting that military, mall and senior discounts are available Sundays-Thursdays. “And there’s a lot of parking space.”
