For a plate of crisp island-grown greens loaded with the freshest, most delicious ingredients, and topped with a housemade dressing so delicious that it’s bottled and offered for sale, head for one of Aloha Salads’ six Oahu locations.
With the first bite, it’s easy to understand how Aloha Salads has become such a hit on Oahu. With a menu of mouthwatering signature salads, subs and wraps, Aloha Salads is the brainchild of Sara Lufrano, who co-owns it with her husband, Chris Lufrano.
“I used to be a lawyer in Chicago, and the only thing that got me through the long days at my desk without falling asleep were the salads I ate,” Lufrano says. “There were no salad places in Hawaii when I moved home from Chicago, and so I had to open my own! ”
Designed with locals in mind, every plate is a delight.
The Ono Island Ahi ($9.95 small, $13.95 large) begins with mixed greens and continues with fresh ahi seared with mango, plus strawberries, coconut, avocado, bean sprouts and green onions, with Aloha Salads’ own mango vinaigrette dressing. The Aloha Mediterranean with Grilled Shrimp ($12 small, $15 large) includes tomatoes, olives, peppers, onions, garbanzo beans, and dill on romaine lettuce, with house made Mediterranean dressing.
Those who crave something a bit more substantial might try the Aloha Pineapple Wrap ($10.25), with grilled chicken, melted provolone, grilled pineapple, avocado, bacon, tomatoes, lettuce and housemade pineapple dressing, wrapped in a warm pita.
If you’re seeking the ultimate comfort food, Sara Lufrano herself urges you to try the Grilled Cheese Combo ($10.95). “That’s our famous homemade tomato bisque soup — the best ever, I promise! — with our special grilled cheese on sourdough, made with fresh mozzarella, Havarti and cheddar cheeses.”
By the way, Aloha Salads has just launched a loyalty program, and has also begun offering online ordering through the website.
