From ribs to shrimp, and even delicious spicy ahi poke, Kau Kau Grill offers a whole-lotta flavor from its hole-in-the-wall location in Mapunapuna.
At Kau Kau Grill, the concept is simple: serve ono food coupled with quick, friendly service without any frills. The eatery was launched by owners Miles Oyasato and Ty Takishita in 2013 as a food truck, and now the brick-and-mortar restaurant helps Kau Kau Grill cater to everyone from construction workers and first responders to office workers and nearby residents.
Everything on the Kau Kau Grill menu is made in-house, and the freshest ingredients are used across the board. Even the popular Krazy Rice ($3 a la carte, or $1 for a single scoop or substitute as part of a plate) is crafted with a special blend of barbecue sauce and spices to turn a bland starch into something to look forward to.
Kau Kau Grill is known for its local favorites like Garlic Shrimp with Krazy Rice ($13) as the shrimp is cooked to perfection with plenty of flavor in each bite. Plate lunches are served with rice and macaroni salad, and are packed with so much tasty food that it’s difficult to close the lid!
Diners also rave about Pulehu Beef Short Ribs ($12) and the saucy BBQ Baby Back Ribs with Krazy Rice ($13).
