A Sicilian staple in Waikiki

In Sicily, Arancine has been a beloved dish for a thousand years, and you can bite into this classic finger food at Il Lupino Trattoria & Wine Bar in Waikiki.

The Arancine Siciliani ($10 happy hour) features five risotto balls, coated in breadcrumbs and deep fried, served with a light, spicy pomodoro sauce.

Born and raised in Rome, Il Lupino’s executive chef Marino Rosato brings a modern twist to classic Italian fare. Known as “Rosmarino” to his friends and loyal customers, Rosato honed his culinary skills in Los Angeles and New York City before making his way to Hawaii.

OCTOPI AND ORVIETO

One of Il Lupino’s most popular items can be found on the dinner menu under “Aperitivo.” The Grilled Octopus ($22) is accompanied with heirloom cherry tomatoes, roasted potatoes, Waipoli spring greens, basil pesto, and roasted red pepper aioli. Recommended wine for this dish is Sergio Mottura Orvieto, a complex white from the Umbria region of Italy.

In addition to this and an array of other Italian culinary delights, Il Lupino also offers more than 850 varieties of wine.
