Next stop for the Genki Sushi “Bullet Express” train is Kapolei.
The popular sushi spot opened its newest location at Kapolei Commons this weekend, and local diners are “all aboard” as patrons of all ages can look forward to the restaurant’s popular delivery system and expansive menu that includes daily and seasonal specials.
By taking the Japanese sushi tradition to new heights, Genki Sushi is considered an innovator in the culinary community after initially popularizing kaiten sushi, which means “revolving.”
Most Genki Sushi locations across the state now offer the double-rail, “bullet train” sushi delivery configuration for convenient, ultra-fast ordering — a tried-and-true method for identifying and selecting one’s favorite choices. As part of the train-ordering process, diners can place orders via an updated, lightweight touch-screen panel and receive their fresh favorites at their table.
“Genki has always remained affordable and family-oriented,” says David Moon, director of purchasing and operations for Genki Sushi. “We’re committed to providing our customers with the latest technology and improving on everything we do within a family-friendly environment.”
With a total of eight locations on Oahu, as well as eateries on Kauai, Maui and Hawaii Island, Genki Sushi serves up flavorful sushi creations in a fun, family-friendly atmosphere. Diners may choose from a host of delicious sushi selections from nigiri to gunkan, rice bowls topped with local favorites, bento sets and even tasty desserts and beverages.
Some of the popular offerings include Seared Spicy Ebi ($3.95) with ebi, garlic mayo and a spicy sauce, and Fried Squid Combo ($3.95). Genki also specializes in specialty sushi rolls, including Spicy Tuna Ebi Fry Roll ($5.95) as well as the colorful and tasty Dragon Roll ($5.95).
Spicy Tuna Bowl ($4.95) features Genki’s popular spicy ahi placed on a bed of rice. Spicy Bomb ($4.95) is composed of the same iconic spicy ahi blend atop sweet cone sushi for an intriguing contrast of flavor, while Stuffed Mushrooms ($5.95) is a popular side dish that pairs nicely with one’s favorite sushi choices.
“We evolve and do our best to keep customers happy,” says Moon. “We continue to look at updating the menu as culinary trends change. However, customers have their favorites, so we will make sure to keep those on the menu.”
Genki Sushi is also offering a 10 percent discount for military members and seniors age 55 and older. The discount is available Sunday through Thursday on dine-in orders only, and as a reminder, diners must show valid photo ID. This offer may not be combined with any other discounts or promotions.
READY, SET, GO!
In addition to popular a la carte sushi choices, the restaurant offers multiple combination sets that are great for on-the-go customers. Genki Set 1 ($16.50) is a hearty selection with 10 assorted pieces including Spicy Tuna, Ika, Tako, Tobiko and Tamago, while Spicy Tuna Set ($17.50) bursts with flavor as 10 pieces of Spicy Tuna are packed in a convenient bento box.
PARTY PLATTER TIME
Genki Sushi offers an array of sushi platters that are perfect for get-togethers, special occasions and everything in between. The popular Party Platter A, which includes 50 pieces of assorted sushi varieties, is available for just $60 and is ideal for the entire ohana as multiple varieties such as Tekka Maki, Ahi, Ika, Tako and Ebi are featured. Party Platter B ($42) is another favorite among diners, as guests can enjoy an assortment of 42 pieces including California Roll and Spicy Tuna.
