Hungry people from all over Oahu have discovered that Kau Kau Grill in the bustling industrial area of Mapunapuna is the place to go for the most mouthwatering eats.
Owners Miles Oyasato and Ty Takishita established Kau Kau Grill in 2013 with an eye toward bringing some exciting, novel flavors to the local plate lunch scene. Judging by the reaction from satisfied customers, they succeeded in big-time style.
Besides its yummy, made in-house dishes, Kau Kau Grill is known for its generous portions, with plates loaded full of entrees, tossed salad or creatively creamy macaroni salad made from spaghetti noodles, and rice.
When it comes to food, there’s nothing like a classic combination of different tastes, textures and flavors to bring a smile to one’s lips.
The owners and staff of Kau Kau Grill know this well, so they have cooked up some amazing combo plates to tantalize taste buds.
Among them is Smoked Meat and Garlic Chicken Combo ($17). This dish includes Kau Kau Grill’s beloved smoked meat, expertly prepared and covered with luscious caramelized onions. The plate also features juicy, tender chunks of chicken bathed in the restaurant’s own garlic sauce, then perfectly sauteed in olive oil.
Another tasty treat from the restaurant is Pulehu Beef Short Ribs and Garlic Ahi Combo ($17). In this dish, Kau Kau Grill’s pulehu beef short ribs get a sprinkling of black pepper and Hawaiian salt, and then they are skillfully grilled. When you wish for fish, the garlic ahi in this dish will make your dreams come true. This fresh ahi is gently seared using olive oil and topped with pieces of crispy garlic and other seasonings.
Still want more seafood options? Then check out Garlic Shrimp and Spicy Poke Combo with Krazy Rice ($20). The butterfly garlic shrimp are sauteed in the eatery’s beloved homemade, fragrant garlic sauce. The combo gets a second dose of oceanic perfection with a heaping helping of spicy poke. All this seafood is perfectly accompanied by the eatery’s famous zesty Krazy Rice, which is ingeniously flavored with the restaurant’s baby back rib barbecue sauce, savory spices and bits of ribs.
