In business for more than three decades, Royal Palace Restaurant at Stadium Mall (near Ice Palace) continues to be a neighborhood favorite for its tasty and affordable Hong Kong-style Chinese cuisine, including its popular all-you-can-eat lunch and dinner buffet, featuring about 50 items to choose from, plus hot tea and ice cream.
The lunch buffet ($13.95) is available from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., while the dinner buffet ($15.95) is served from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. Among the freshly made dishes you’ll find are local favorites Salt and Pepper Shrimp, Beef Broccoli, Steamed Fish and Cold Ginger Chicken. For dinner, there are some additional dishes, such as Clam with Ginger Sauce.
The restaurant’s extensive menu of almost 200 items, includes appetizers, soups, meat and seafood entrees, clay pots, vegetable and egg dishes, sizzling plates, noodles and rice dishes.
There also are party platters, and special set party menus for large groups celebrating a special occasion.
For groups of 10 or more celebrating a birthday, enjoy a free mango fish (mango pudding shaped as a fish), which is not only fun but also represents the wish for more good fortune in all areas of life, as the Chinese character for fish is pronounced the same as the Chinese character for surplus. Mention mango fish at time of reservation.
HOUSE SPECIALTIES ABOUND
Owner and chef Jin He Wu took over ownership of Royal Palace Restaurant about four years ago, updating its menu with some of his original recipes while keeping some signature dishes.
He recommends the classic House Special Roast Duck ($13.50 for half duck), and Steamed Tofu with Fish ($12.95) made with a house soy sauce mix that is especially good with a bowl of steamed rice.
