A CLOSER LOOK AT THIS WEEK’S HOUSE SPECIAL: KSK BAKED STUFFED SALMON BENEDICT ($12.95)
Kahai Street Kitchen is so much more than a take-out eatery.
This sentiment immediately is evident from the moment you place your order at the takeout window to the point at which you open up your Styrofoam plate lunch.
As its name suggests, Kahai Street churns out homemade-quality food — fare you’d expect to come straight from your family’s kitchen — with an elevated twist.
“We make everything to-order here — everything is freshly made,” says head chef David Yamamoto. “We cut zero corners, and we keep standards high. So, it may take a little longer to come out — quality takes a little bit longer — but the end result is better.”
You’ll still find local classics such as Hamburger Steak and Chicken Katsu on Kahai Street’s menu, but there’s also refined selections like Crab Crusted Mahimahi and Guava Barbecue Braised Brisket. Also take advantage of weekly specials, including this week’s KSK Baked Stuffed Salmon Benedict, which will be available Tuesday-Friday, and is perfect from breakfast to dinner.
Island staples
This local-style plate lunch wouldn’t be complete without a scoop of rice (white or brown) and a side salad (potato mac or tossed).
A great catch
A fillet of Atlantic salmon and sauteed spinach and onions, are encased in the puff pastry and cooked to moist perfection.
Brunch with a twist
Two poached eggs are perched on top of the pastry, as a healthy pouring of sunshine-colored hollandaise sauce covers the entire meal.
The ‘poof is in the puff’
A flaky puff pastry replaces the English muffin found in standard eggs Benedict, adding layers of buttery crispness to the beloved breakfast dish.
