Build a restaurant that offers high-quality food that’s convenient and affordable, and they will come. Asian Mix in Honolulu is proof of that recipe for success as it continues to grow its following of customers since opening in May 2012.
Located in the heart of Honolulu, below Safeway with plenty of free parking, the casual takeout-style eatery serves a variety of tasty Hong Kong-inspired dishes, along with some Japanese ramen and local favorites.
“The lunch hour is super busy,” says owner and manager Daniel Leung. The Tea Time counter, which serves Taiwanese-style drinks such as brewed tea, bubble drinks, milk tea and smoothies, is popular too. “The whole store is getting more and more traffic every day,” Leung says.
The restaurant also offers catering options, and a weekly special for just $6.95 starting on Sunday of each week. This week’s special is Beef Chow Funn or Curry Chow Funn.
SLURP-WORTHY PICKS
Local favorite Asian Mix has a few top-sellers, including its noodle in soup dishes, such as Wonton Noodle in Soup ($6.95) and Roast Duck with Funn in Soup ($9.50).
“We make the wonton fresh every day, and we order the noodles from a noodle house in California,” says Daniel Leung, the restaurant’s owner and manager.
It also comes with a couple of pieces of char siu, fresh choy sum and five pieces of wonton.
Asian Mix also is known for its roasted meats, including Roast Duck, which often sells out. For those who want to try it with noodles, Leung recommends funn. “It’s the best match,” he explains. “The funn we use is local. They make it fresh and deliver it to the shop every morning.”
