When Francis and Charlie Higa opened the first Zippy’s Restaurant in the McCully area 51 years ago, a local tradition of serving Hawaii’s favorite food coupled with stellar customer service was born.
Zippy’s is celebrating the momentous anniversary with its Ninth Island Las Vegas Giveaway, through which three grand-prize trips from Honolulu to Las Vegas, including hotel accommodations and airfare, will be awarded. Additionally, 10 consolation prizes will be awarded in the form of $100 Zippy’s gift cards.
In conjunction with the giveaway, Zippy’s is also featuring a special offer available through Oct. 31: The popular Spaghetti & Chicken Mixed Plate can be enjoyed for just $7.16 at the fast food counter and $8.25 at the dine-in restaurant. The local favorite includes spaghetti and meat sauce, golden fried chicken and a slice of garlic bread.
“We have consistently strived to maintain our food quality and the great local tastes that have helped build our reputation throughout the years, especially with our signature items,” says Jeanine Mamiya-Kalahiki, marketing manager at Zippy’s Restaurants. “Times have changed, but what remains consistent is good quality, great taste and service with aloha.”
In addition to Zippy’s anniversary promotion, there are other exciting offers patrons can take advantage of. In support of Marcus Mariota’s Motiv8 Foundation, Zippy’s has launched a two-month-long campaign to raise funds for the foundation, which is geared towards promoting healthy minds and bodies among youth in Hawaii.
Diners can help by purchasing Motiv8 Foundation cut outs for $1 at all Zippy’s locations, donating to designated canisters at the restaurant and by purchasing a flavorful Kokua Pac. The original Kokua Pac ($8.12 fast food, $9.35 restaurant) is back, and features two of Mariota’s favorites from Zippy’s: Portuguese sausage and Korean chicken. The Kokua Pac also includes a teriyaki hot dog and a slice of Spam atop a bed of rice, and 25 cents from each Kokua Pac sold through Oct. 31 will be donated to the Motiv8 Foundation.
In other tasty Zippy’s news, Cold Saimin Salad ($8.75 in the restaurant only) is available now through Oct. 31 as the featured salad of the month. The fresh creation is built with Iceberg lettuce topped with chilled saimin noodles along with char siu, cucumber, Spam, egg, uzumaki (fishcake) and furikake. The refreshing salad is served with a choice of Ginger Sesame or House dressing.
Desserts continue to draw rave reviews as well, especially in the case of two new sweet sensations that pair perfectly with any meal. Tropical Papaya Sundae ($7.75 restaurant only) is an ideal island treat that includes half of a refreshing papaya that is split and topped with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, banana slices, Napoleon’s Bakery Melting Moments cookie crumbles and pineapple topping.
Chocolate Haupia Waffle, Pancakes and French Toast ($7.85 apiece in the restaurant only, available through Oct. 31) serves as the perfect end to one’s dining experience, or as a yummy snack any time of the day. One’s choice of a crisp Belgian waffle, short stack of golden, fluffy pancakes or Zippy’s sweet bread French toast is topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, haupia sauce, chocolate and whipped cream.
