With the holidays approaching, now is the time to prepare for happy gatherings, enjoyed over delicious food at a stunning location. Look no further than The Mandalay in Downtown Honolulu to fulfill your celebration needs, whether it’s a business lunch, birthday party or family get-together.
The fine-dining eatery on Alakea Street can accommodate any party size with its large dining room and separate conference rooms with compartment doors. What’s more, the restaurant has a second story that can fit upwards of 130 people.
Serving Cantonese cuisine, as well as Hong Kong-style dim sum, The Mandalay offers an abundance of dishes and menus, including its regular dining menu, lunch banquet menu, dinner banquet menu and pau hana menu.
Find delicious entrees, such as Creamy Shrimp and Sweet & Sour Chicken Fried Rice ($16.95) — a “yin and yang” combination featuring creamy shrimp with vegetables and sweet-and-sour chicken on top of a bed of steamy fried rice.
“It’s a classic,” says Wilfred Leung, the assistant to the general manager at The Mandalay. He explains that the food combo is commonly found in China, which led to the dish being served at the restaurant.
Or, order off the menu with Whole Winter Melon Soup with Seafood and Chicken ($80), a tasty, delicate broth with diced winter melon, seafood and chicken served in a hollowed-out winter melon.
Leung recommends that diners order this item at least a day in advance as it takes time to prepare. The soup can feed up to 10 people, and is a perfect addition to any large party.
