As the urban area of Kakaako continues to boom with trendy, new businesses and eateries, the quaint Asahi Grill remains steadfast on Ward Avenue, as it has since the location opened in 2007.

The cozy establishment serves Asian-infused, local comfort foods that customers can enjoy for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Oxtail Ramen ($11.50)

Asahi Grill’s breakfast menu — available until 11 a.m. — offers classic combinations that also allow diners to conveniently customize their meals. Meat Lovers Breakfast ($8.95) comes with Portuguese and link sausages, Spam and a generous serving of rice. Then, for just a few bucks more, fried rice — original, kimchee, lap cheong or adobo — can be substituted as a starch. Adobo Fried Rice (add $3.50) hits all the right spots as its tender, shredded pork is mixed with Asahi’s original fried rice that results in a moist and flavorful bite. Add in fluffy sweet bread French Toast ($6.50), and the day is off to a great start!

The rest of Asahi Grill’s menu can be enjoyed anytime of day and presents customers with a plethora of mouthwatering options.

A surefire choice that certainly heats things up, yet soothes and comforts at the same time, is Oxtail Ramen ($11.50).

French Toast ($6.50)

Best-known for its Oxtail Soup, Asahi Grill kicked it up a notch and turned this classic dish into its own clever yet simple creation. The light and tasty oxtail broth creates a perfect pool for the ramen noodles, two pieces of ox-tail, fish cake and garnishes to swim in.

Restaurant supervisor Victoria Sayno takes pride in Asahi Grill and its customers, always putting diners’ satisfaction first and treating patrons like family. She says to have satisfied customers starts from the inside. “If our workers are happy, then it reflects off onto the customers, and we want to make everyone happy.”
