Japanese meal sets are here to impress

Tonkatsu ($12.95) is the most popular teishoku set.

For authentic Japanese fare that’s sure to satisfy, Teishoku Restaurant presents complete meal options for everyone.

Located in Kamehameha Shopping Center, Teishoku specializes in complete meal sets. The restaurant’s extensive menu features many teishoku varieties; each meal consists of a main dish, appetizers, salad, rice and miso soup.

The most popular teishoku set is Tonkatsu ($12.95), according to manager Iris Tong.

Fried Baby Tako ($7.95)

“This Japanese dish consists of a breaded, deep-fried pork cutlet,” she explains. “We use a pork loin that’s tenderized and served with shredded cabbage. The meat is salted, peppered, dredged lightly in flour, dipped in beaten egg and then coated with Japanese panko (bread crumbs) before being deep fried. Our Tonkatsu is crispy on the outside and super juicy and tender on the inside.

“You can eat Tonkatsu with our house special tonkatsu sauce with sesame seeds on top,” Tong adds. “Our Tonkatsu Teishoku is served with your choice of rice — white, brown or sushi — miso soup, salad and tsukemono. Most customers really like our sushi rice.”

If you’re looking for a shareable appetizer, Tong recommends Fried Baby Tako ($7.95). The side dish features nine pieces of fried baby tako (octopus) seasoned with shichimi togarashi and a mayonnaise dipping sauce.

“Customers really like our Japanese mayonnaise, and the tako is delicious,” Tong states.

Teishoku Restaurant also offers a vast selection of combination meals, donburi, nigiri, curries, rolled sushi and sashimi for diners to enjoy.

“Other customers’ favorites include our Ahi Sashimi ($11.95) and any of our combination meals ($16.95 each),” Tong says.
