If you’re on the hunt for quality Japanese cuisine, look no further than Teishoku Restaurant.

Tucked away in Kalihi at Kamehameha Shopping Center, the restaurant offers tasty fare served up in a casual atmosphere, all at an affordable price.

As the restaurant nears its one-year anniversary, it continues to please a wide range of both kamaaina and tourists.

Teishoku translates to “complete meal sets,” and at this eatery, teishoku varieties come with a main dish, appetizers, rice salad and miso soup.

Additionally, the restaurant offers sashimi, rolled sushi, curry, ramen and more on its menu.

PIGGING OUT

One of the most beloved teishoku sets at Kalihi’s Teishoku Restaurant is Tonkatsu. Priced at $12.95 for a complete set, guests receive a succulent dish of breaded, deep-fried pork cutlet. “The meat is salted, peppered, dredged lightly in flour, dipped in beaten egg and then coated with Japanese panko before being deep fried,” explains vice president Jason Zhang. He also recommends ordering Baby Tako ($7.95), presenting nine pieces of fried baby tako seasoned with shichimi togarashi (Japanese chili pepper) and served with Japanese mayonnaise.
