As living a healthy lifestyle becomes more than just a trend, restaurants all around Hawaii are altering their menus to offer a little something for everyone. Junpuu, however, is already ahead of the pack with healthy choices and vegetarian options that are as tasty as ever.
Known for its signature tonkotsu broth and variety of ramen, Junpuu also is loved because its chefs make everything from scratch. The restaurant celebrated one year since opening last March at its South King Street locale.
For those all in favor of making healthier choices, owner Eiji Kato recommends Vegetarian Tomato Ramen ($10.50), highlighting sun-dried tomatoes and fresh vegetables in a veggie soup base.
VEGETARIAN FARE
Another route to take when eating healthy at Junpuu is Vegetarian Tantan Men ($10.50). This spicy ramen includes a vegetable soup base that is made with almonds, sesame seeds and peanuts. Vegetables, such as pumpkin, okra, red bell peppers, zucchini and spinach, fill the bowl, giving off a steamy and delectable aroma. Pair this with a tasty appetizer, such as Homemade Potato Chips ($4), which are hand-sliced potatoes seasoned with Himalayan salt. Junnpuu also offers more vegetarian dishes, in addition to gluten-free options.
