People from Hawaii can truly appreciate the elegance and whimsy of Japanese cuisine, with its light flavors and simple intricacies. There truly is no place that balances those details better than Bakery & Table, the state’s newest modern bakery and restaurant from Japan.
The ground floor of the two-story venue features a smorgasbord of freshly baked breads, pastries and treats, using flour from Japan and local ingredients. Upstairs, a terrace is prepared to host diners for lunch and dinner. Once focused on Italian-inspired food, the restaurant fare has slowly shifted to Hawaii Regional Cuisine, utilizing fresh local ingredients whenever possible.
During October, Bakery & Table is offering 10 percent off bakery goods to those who work in the health-care industry — i.e. hospitals, doctor’s offices, health insurance companies, etc. Just show your employee badge and receive a discount on pastries and coffee.
On Oct. 15, happy hour will launch from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. and feature appetizers and drink specials.
Under The Sea
The price for Seared Fresh Catch of the Day (market price) changes daily, according to what fish is available from Honolulu Fish Auction. Bakery & Table often showcases uku, ono, mahi mahi, opah and monchong for this menu item. The bright highlight of this dish, however, is the delectable kabayaki butter sauce — which is used to glaze the pan-seared fish — Maui tomatoes, bacon lardons and Kuhuku corn. Everything is served with a Kahuku corn cream sauce, which is prepared from expertly steeping corn on the cob.
