As Zippy’s Restaurants approaches its half-century mark, the always-popular eatery prepares to send 50 lucky residents to Las Vegas.
As it approaches its monumental 50th anniversary of serving up award-winning menu favorites within a family-friendly setting, Zippy’s Restaurants is rewarding loyal patrons with an opportunity to visit the “Ninth Island.”
Throughout September, Zippy’s is sending 50 people to Las Vegas as part of this month’s giveaway. As part of the anniversary celebration, 25 Vacations Hawaii trips for two will be awarded, and as a reminder, no purchase is necessary. Visit Zippys.com for information on how to enter this exciting giveaway.
To coincide with the celebration, Zippy’s allows diners to hit the jackpot with Spaghetti and Chicken Mixed Plate for just $6.99 at fast-food counters and $7.99 in dine-in restaurants (special prices available through Sept. 30). The family favorite includes spaghetti with meat sauce, fried chicken, macaroni salad (corn served at dine-in restaurants) and garlic bread.
As a means of showing support for Hawaii United Okinawa Association and its annual Okinawan Festival — which unfortunately was canceled due to the recent hurricane warnings — Zippy’s is rolling out special items (available through Sept. 30 from 10:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.) inspired by favorites that normally would be sold at the festival.
Diners may dig in to Shoyu Pork ($10.75 at fast food counters, $12.35 at dine-in restaurants) with boneless, cubed pork slowly cooked in a sweet soy sauce marinade and served with rice and macaroni salad (corn served in the restaurant). The popular Zip Dog ($8 fast food, $9 dine-in restaurant) is composed of Zippy’s chili, hotdog, shoyu pork and tossed greens all wrapped in a flour tortilla. With each Shoyu Pork plate and Zip Dog sold, 25 cents will be donated to Hawaii Okinawa Association.
Zippy’s also is offering a special Kokua Pac ($8.08 fast food, $9.30 dine-in restaurant). This popular Kokua Pac includes Korean chicken, Portuguese sausage, teriyaki hotdog and Spam over rice. Additionally, 25 cents from each Kokua Pac sold will be donated to Alzheimer’s Association. Customers may also purchase a special cut-out for just $1 each and can donate additional monies at designated boxes at all Zippy’s locations throughout October.
Generations of diners have always flocked to Zippy’s in pursuit of delectable desserts, and the eatery has created yet another tasty treat in Macadamia Nut Sauce Waffle and Pancakes ($8.25 dine-in restaurants only). Through Oct. 31, guests can enjoy a crisp Belgian waffle or a short stack of pancakes smothered with a light, yet filling macadamia nut sauce and a scoop of vanilla ice cream and whipped cream.
Zippy’s also continues to roll out delicious new salads at its dine-in restaurants, including Cold Saimin Salad ($8.50, available through
Sept. 30 at dine-in restaurants only). The fresh creation incorporates a bed of lettuce topped with saimin noodles, char siu, cucumber, Spam, egg, uzumaki and furikake, along with a choice of ginger-sesame or house dressing.
As a testament to its popularity amongst local diners, Zippy’s was honored recently with a trio of commendations in Honolulu Star-Advertiser’s annual Hawaii’s Best People’s Choice Awards for serving up the “Best Family Dining,” representing the “Best Late Night Eatery” and offering the “Best Bento,” the latter of which recognizes the iconic Zip Pac and other popular combinations. Zippy’s also garnered second place in the “Best American Food” category and second-place honors in the “Best Bakery” slate in recognition of Napoleon’s Bakery.
