Nestled high in the trees of lush Manoa Valley, Treetops restaurant has been a longtime favorite for generations of island families and visitors. Perched 60 feet in the air, with surrounding glass walls and seven private outdoor balconies, the iconic eatery continues to serve tasty local cuisine in a one-of-a-kind setting. There even is a live musician to help bring back the old Hawaii vibe.

Under new management since April 1, the restaurant has updated its breakfast, lunch and buffet menus, as well as its interior with new entertainment stages and more. The spacious restaurant also is available for private dinner parties of up to about 300 people.

Starting July 21, Treetops will host Kopy Katz Waikiki every Thursday, featuring cover performances of entertainers from Hawaii’s past, such as Don Ho, Alfred Apaka, Hilo Hattie and Frank Sinatra. Cost is $48.50 per person, including a dinner buffet and entertainment. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., dinner is served at 6 and the show starts at 7:30. Or attend the show only for $35 (doors open at 7).

Treetops also has become a popular spot for hikers going to neighboring Manoa Falls Trail, so the restaurant offers a Hiker’s Special: buy one buffet, get one half off.

TRY SOMETHING NEW

Treetops recently introduced an updated menu featuring a mix of original favorites (such as its Manoa’s Best Shrimp Plates) and some new, unique dishes. Among the new creations by chef Tess Panoncillo is Ono Moco ($13), available for breakfast and lunch (from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.). Enjoy two fluffy pancakes that sandwich melted cheese and grilled Spam for a surprisingly delicious combination. It’s all topped with two eggs, and as Panoncillo explains, “I made it one day, the staff tried it and they all liked it!”

In addition to its breakfast and lunch menus, Treetops also is known for its local-style buffet ($18, available from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.) offering island favorites like Kalua Pig, Chicken Long Rice, Fried Noodles, Steamed Fish, Teriyaki Chicken, hapa rice, salad bar, fruits and desserts.

Starting July 31, the restaurant will begin its Sunday Brunch Buffet ($22) serving island cuisine complemented by island entertainment.
