Nestled beneath Safeway on Beretania Street, Asian Mix has become a go-to spot for people on the go. According to owner Daniel Leung, the restaurant caters to shoppers wanting to get their groceries home, as well as workers grabbing a quick bite before heading back to the office.
“A lot of people come down on their lunch break,” Leung shares.
While Asian Mix leans heavily on Chinese influences, there also are other types of cuisines here: ramen, local favorites and more.
Each week, Asian Mix offers a special deal on a different dish. Starting today through Saturday, Deep Fried Pork Chop with Pepper and Salt will be discounted to just $6.95 ($9.50 regular). “We deep fry the pork chop,” Leung says, “and once we do that, then we put chili pepper, onion and garlic and other seasonings, using the wok to stir-fry everything.”
SIDE DISHES THAT MAKE THE MEAL
One of Asian Mix’s most popular offerings is its array of plate lunch options, which are served from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily. You can get one to three entrees with your choice of sides. “We always have at least eight choices every day that people can choose from,” Leung says.
Side dishes include fried rice, steamed vegetables, yakisoba noodles and chow fun. Entrees include curry chicken, sweet sour pork and tofu and veggies. Pictured is a One Side, Two Choice Plate Lunch ($7.45), featuring yakisoba and fried rice (half portions of each) for the side dish, alongside orange-flavored chicken and beef and broccoli.
