Hot Pot Heaven has opened a second location in Aiea, offering a variety of tasty homemade broths and a wide selection of meat, seafood and vegetables, which can be cooked to your liking at your table.
Owners Cosme and Violeta Rivera retired a few years ago, but enjoyed eating hot pot so much that they decided to open a franchise of the popular McCully eatery where they regularly dined. The new restaurant opened Feb. 6, and conveniently is located in Pearl Kai Shopping Center (across from Pearlridge Center) with plenty of free parking.
To order, customers simply pick their broth and any add-on dishes and cook it all in a steaming pot on a portable stove. Broth flavors include Chicken, Vegetarian, Beef Miso, Kimchee, Tofu, Thai, Mushroom and Seafood. There also is a sweet and flavorful Hawaii Broth ($10.99), featuring a unique mix of Hot Pot Heaven’s signature Chicken broth with locally grown Hawaiian pineapples, shallot crisps, okra, Thai basil and taro stems.
The extensive selection of a la carte dishes can be found in large refrigerators in the dining room, and each is served on color-coded plates. Try Stuffed Aburage ($4.89) made with seasoned ground pork, long rice and shrimp; Cabbage Roll ($4.89) with ground pork and shrimp; or Homemade Gyoza ($4.89) filled with seasoned pork, cabbage, chives and shrimp.
“We specialize in Thai and Vietnamese hot pot,” says manager Gerald Rivera. “The most popular are the Thai and Mushroom broths, and pork and shrimp for the add-on dishes.”
