It’s Game Time

Bright and lively, Ahi & Vegetable is packed with customers on their lunch breaks. The scene is not much different during other times of the day, as patrons always are eager to get their fresh fish and bento fix at the restaurant’s two convenient locations on Dillingham Boulevard and at Fort Street Mall.

The Dillingham Boulevard shop is the newest locale, and Ahi & Vegetable has been welcomed with open arms by the Kalihi community for its quality eats and affordable prices. Owner Sam Seo continues to offer customers his seafood selections without deviating from reasonable prices, because ultimately, Seo wants to make his customers happy.

And happy they are, especially with the eatery’s 10 bento options to choose from. Bento B3 ($12) includes pan-seared ahi and salmon with marinated and grilled teriyaki chicken. All is laid on a bed of rice with a generous helping of furikake, and is the perfect choice for those who don’t eat raw fish.

With Super Bowl fast approaching, Seo and his team are equipped and ready to fulfill your football-food needs. With over 10 party platters to choose from, your stomach will be content, even if your team loses. Make sure to check out the eatery’s delicious party-platter options before game day.

COLORFUL FARE

Although Ahi & Vegetable does everything well, from bentos to party platters, the restaurant excels with its simple dishes, too, showcasing what the establishment knows best, which is fresh fish.

Chirashi Don ($16) is a rainbow of colors, from the deep red of ahi tuna, which is bought daily at the local auction each morning, to the bright yellow of tamago. Also present are thick cuts of hamachi and salmon with a dollop each of ikura and masago. Ika, ebi and choy sum also are added to take this meal over the top. With customers’ choice of rice — either white, sushi or brown — Chirashi Don is the perfect dish for everyone.
