Lights are strung on banisters and Christmas garlands and wreaths hang in festive cheer at Romano’s Macaroni Grill this season. The restaurant hopes to put shoppers in the Christmas spirit, while also offering delicious relief from the frenzy of holiday shopping with its eclectic menu of Italian fare.
Making 10 years last month, Romano’s continues to pride itself on catering to its guests through quality food and service. Regional corporate chef Nawai Kekoolani emphasizes his intentions to focus on caring for the local community — especially in the midst of droves of tourists who have descended upon Ala Moana Center.
Romano’s offers a make-your-own-pasta option, as well as flatbreads, artisan pizzas and choice varieties of wine. Each member of the family will be sure to find something perfect for his or her specific appetite.
SAY CHEESE
At the top of the list for most customers is Butternut Asiago Totellaci ($17). It could be the dish’s tortellaci (oversized tortellini), which is stuffed with four cheeses: asiago, fontina, ricotta and Parmesan. Or, maybe it’s the creamy Alfredo sauce at the base of the plate. There is no dispute that the white wine demi-glace lends the elegance the dish deserves. And, let’s not forget the roasted butternut squash and crispy prosciutto, the latter of which adds a salty and smoky aspect, bringing all the ingredients together beautifully. It truly is a meal to pause your shopping for.
