Walter James, financial adviser at Pho My Lien, is one person who certainly is not complaining about the rainy weather we’ve been having lately. After all, it’s been bringing in a ton of customers — even more than usual — to get the restaurant’s pho.
“The pho is our most popular item,” James says. “We probably sell about 300 bowls a day, and when it rains, we sell more.”
Pho My Lien has been in business for 16 years, initially in Waikiki before settling in Aiea several years ago. The eatery serves family-style Vietnamese cuisine.
“We serve fresh food that is simple, delicious and affordable,” James says.
It all began when Tommy Dang — whose Vietnamese name is My — was working for James. When Dang married Lien Bui, she would cook for them. He was so impressed with her cuisine that he encouraged the couple to open a restaurant. They took his suggestion seriously, and when the time came, James helped them upstart the business.
ON A ROLL
For the rest of December, you can get a deal on Pho My Lien’s Rice Vermicelli.
The Rice Vermicelli with barbecue chicken and two egg rolls now is available for just $8.99 ($11.50 regularly) with a coupon that can be found inside Dining Out on page 20.
“It’s a super deal,” James says.
The dish comes with vermicelli noodles — which are thin, soft rice noodles — topped with shredded carrots and celery and bean sprouts.
